Expedia has successfully <a href="http://pulse2.com/2011/04/08/expedia-spinning-off-tripadvisor-into-separate-public-company/">spun off</a> TripAdvisor.com as its own public company.  TripAdvisor.com is currently trading on the stock market with the ticker symbol TRIP.  Currently TripAdvisor has a market cap of about $4 billion.<br />

“This is a truly exciting time for TripAdvisor, and we are eager to continue to innovate on behalf of our users and grow the business as we enter this next chapter,” stated TripAdvisor co-founder and CEO Stephen Kaufer.</p>
<p>TripAdvisor launched in 2000 and receives 65 million monthly visitors.  These visitors browse through the 50 million hotel, restaurant, and travel reviews on the website.  About 25 new contributions are being made per minute.  In the third quarter of this year, TripAdvisor reported revenues of $180 million.</p>
<p>Expedia is currently has a market cap of $7.4 billion on the stock market.</p>

Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) has announced today that they plan to spin off TripAdvisor.com off into a separate public company.  The board has already signed off on the spin-off, but the deal is still pending based on a shareholder vote.<br />

Expedia will maintain domestic and international operations for their travel brands, including Hotels.com, eLong, Hotwire, carrentals.com, etc.  Expedia spun out from Microsoft in 1999.</p>
<p>TripAdvisor receives over 50 million unique visitors per month, many of them that read hotel reviews.  Expedia acquired TripAdvisor from InterActive Corp. for $210 million in 2004.  The TripAdvisor Media Network posted $314 million in last year&#8217;s revenues.</p>

<p>“Vacation rentals is the hot emerging category in travel and FlipKey has a great foundation and a smart business approach,” stated Steve Kaufer, the founder and CEO of TripAdvisor. “We believe we can help FlipKey become the leader in the space and, in turn, FlipKey content will satisfy a growing need for TripAdvisor users.”</p>
<p>FlipKey.com is based in Boston, Mass.  FlipKey was launched in March 2008 and is led by TJ Mahony as the CEO.  FlipKey has about 50,000 vacation homes reviewed across all 50 States.  FlipKey&#8217;s content will begin to be integrated in TripAdvisor.</p>
