TweetDeck started with one team member and one user to a team of 15 with millions of users. The TweetDeck team will remain in London. Twitter has closed the acquisition of TweetDeck according to a source with TechCrunch. Twitter is putting in between $40-$50 million in cash and Twitter stock to acquire TweetDeck. UberMedia was close to acquiring TweetDeck, but Twitter came in and made an unsolicited offer. UberMedia has raised $17.5 million in a round of funding led by Accel Partners with participation from Index Ventures and Revolution Ventures. This puts UberMedia’s valuation at about $40 million. Index Ventures. Over the weekend, Ubermedia also acquired TweetDeck for $30 million in cash and equity. TweetDeck is testing out a new service that would extend beyond Twitter’s 140 character limitation called Deck.ly. This is interesting because Twitter has been filling in holes in their services over the last year by creating products which would directly compete with third parties. Now TweetDeck is working filling in a hole that Twitter has in their whole business model.
