Google SVP of Social Vic Gundotra took the stage at the Web 2.0 Summit and announced several upcoming Google+ features and milestones. Gundotra said that over 3.4 billion photos have been shared on Google+ in the last 100 days. One of the reasons why tons of photos were added to Google+ at a fast pace is because they can be uploaded to Google+ directly from Android phones.
Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) has announced several improvements to the Google+ social network. They have integrated the Google+ search engine into the social network and added a “Hangouts” feature for mobile use and broadcasting.
Google SVP of Engineering at Google Vic Gundotra shared an interesting story about Steve Jobs on Google+ earlier this week. On January 6, 2008, Gundotra was attending a religious service when his cell phone vibrated from a number that said “Caller ID unknown.” He ignored it and checked the voicemail later. It turns out that it was Steve Jobs discussing how he wanted the icon changed slightly for the Google mobile application. Below is the full story:
Google SVP of Engineering Vic Gundotra is best known for leading the development of the Google+ social network. Now he is the star of a Mercedes Benz commercial. In this ad he talks about how lucky he is that his S63 AMG automatically detected a car in front of him that was not moving. While Gundotra was distracted, he realized that it was almost too late to stop, but his car saved him.
Some Google+ users were upset to find out that their accounts were cancelled because of Google’s name restrictions. Google senior VP of social Vic Gundotra insisted that people used their real names when using the Google+ social network. He compared it to when a restaurant does not allow people in that do not wear shirts.
Yesterday Google’s Vic Gundotra told TechCrunch that the way the company handled the Google+ brands pages was “probably a mistake.” Given the backlash Google is currently receiving for their poor handling of Google+ business accounts, it’s good to hear Google acknowledge their mistakes. Google warned Google+ users that the service is currently for real people only and that brands would be shut down, but when the culling happened yesterday, no one seemed prepared. Furthermore, a few people were extremely vocal about their displeasure with the situation. Possibly because the situation hasn’t exactly gone the way it was announced.
