Walmart Laughs Off Apple’s App Rules With iPad-Optimized Vudu Site
Walmart’s Vudu video streaming service is the next in what may be a long line of services that opt for iPad-optimized sites instead of iPad apps. Walmart’s Vudu site launch follows in the steps of Amazon’s Kindle Cloud Reader. The web-based apps (and others by Financial Times and Kobo) use HTML5 to avoid breaking Apple’s restrictions for in-app subscriptions. [Mashable]

Vudu Starts Streaming 3D Movies
High-definition movie on-demand streaming service Vudu now has 3D. The 3D content on Vudu is currently available on certain Samsung HDTVs and Blu-ray players. In the next few weeks, Vudu will work on the PlayStation 3. Vizio, LG, and other TVs will have Vudu in the next few months.

Wal-Mart Buys Movie Streaming Company, Vudu
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has decided that they want to take on Apple iTunes, Netflix, and cable TV by acquiring Vudu. Vudu started three years ago in the Silicon Valley area of California. Wal-Mart is one of the biggest retail stores for DVD sales, but they did not have a solid way to sell streaming video content to consumers as of yet. Vudu had funding from Benchmark Capital and Greylock Capital, but was never profitable. The financial details were undisclosed, but the amount rumored is $100 million. [NYT]

VUDU Unleashes First On-Demand Service That Sells HD and HDX Movies
You never know what a sleek black device like this can do. In terms of providing the ability to download-to-own HD and HDX movies on-demand, VUDU is the first company to provide the service. The service is available immediately and most movies are between $13.99-$23.99.
About 50 movies will be available upfront, including Oscar winner, Man On Wire. Man On Wire was put together by Magnolia Pictures. In addition to offering movie services, VUDU is able to connect to YouTube and Flickr. The VUDU player is available for $149 at Vudu.com.
