Hailo Raises $30.6 Million In Series B

Hailo is a service that lets you summon a black cab in London, Boston, Chicago, Dublin, and Toronto.  The company has raised $30.6 million in Series B funding led by Union Square Ventures with participation from Japanese telecommunications company KDDI, Richard Branson (founder/chairman of Virgin Group), Phenomen Ventures, Felicis Ventures, Red Swan Ventures, Wellington Partners, and Atomico Ventures. Hailo has raised a total of about $50 million thus far.

Truphone Raises $118 Million In Funding

Truphone is a United Kingdom based mobile network that lets users make cheap phone calls to other mobile devices. The company has raised £75 million ($118 million) from a group of investors led by Roman Abramovich (owner of the Chelsea Football Club).  Abramovich’s investment company Minden accounted for around £70 million of the investment, which gives them a 23.3% stake in the company based on a £300 million ($473 million) valuation according to TechCrunch.

Hailo Raises $30 Million With A $140 Million Valuation

Hailo is a European taxi haling service that is similar to Uber.  The company is preparing to raise a large round of funding to expand into New York City.  Based in London, Hailo is going to raise around $30 million in Series B funding according to sources with AllThingsD.  Earlier this year, Hailo raised $17 million in Series A funding from Accel Partners, Atomico, and Wellington Partners.

Seesmic Raises $4 Million, Bringing Them To A Total Of $16 Million


Seesmic is a social media application company based in San Francisco that enables people to send out mass updates on Twitter and other services. Seesmic competes directly with TweetDeck. Earlier this month Seesmic has raised $4 million in a new round of funding from Salesforce.com, Softbank Group, Atomico, Omidyar Network, and Wellington Partners. Seesmic has raised a total of $16 million thus far.

Motorola Buys Location Mobile Startup Aloqa


Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) has acquired Aloqa, a private startup that develops location-based technology for mobile applications. The financial details was undisclosed. Aloqa raised $1.5 million in Series A from angel investors and Wellington Partners about a year ago.
