Ford Motor Company (F): 2015 Focus to have perpendicular parking assist feature

Posted Feb 24, 2014

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) revealed the 2015 Ford Focus at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The new Focus will make it easier for the driver to parallel park and back out. The new Focus will start selling in the third quarter of this year in Europe.

The current version of the Focus has sensors mounted on the car to control and guide the vehicle into a space as the driver controls the gas and brake. The new Focus has additional sensors that partially automates perpendicular parking. The car warns drivers if cars or pedestrians are about to cross behind them when the car is in reverse.

There is also a new feature that partially automates the backing out of a perpendicular space. The new Focus will be the first from Ford in Europe to feature Sync 2, which is an updated version of Ford’s infotainment system. Sync 2 offers voice control of the music system, navigation, and climate control.

MyKey is a feature for parents to restrict top speed and maximum volume of the audio system when a certain key is used for kids that are just starting to drive. If drivers and passengers are not wearing safety belts, the audio system will not play.
