3D Systems (DDD) acquires Gentle Giant Studios

3D Systems Corporation (NYSE:DDD) has acquired modeling and toy design company Gentle Giant Studios. For over 20 years, Gentle Giant Studios led the development of toy models using 3D scanning and modeling to develop and manufacture licensed 3D printed characters from a variety of franchise properties such as AMC’s The Walking Dead, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Avatar, and Marvel Comics. 3D Systems will be leveraging Gentle Giant Studios technology and its library of digital content into their consumer platform to further reach the 3D scanning, modeling and printing market for toys and collectibles.
“Gentle Giant Studios catapults 3DS’s consumer platform forward with highly curated, licensed characters, content publishing know-how and first-mover experience for the benefit of leading toy companies, movie studios and their merchandising divisions,” stated Avi Reichental, President and CEO of 3D Systems.
3D Systems is known for building 3D printing design-to-manufacturing solutions including 3D printers, print materials, and on-demand custom parts for professionals and consumers including plastics, metals, ceramics and edibles. 3D Systems also offers integrated 3D scan-based designs and inspection tools.
