McAfee security experts have discovered that 72 organizations have been targeted for a major cyber-attack. These organizations include the United Nations, the government, and several international companies.

McAfee believes that one “state actor” is involved for the attacked. One expert pointed at China using evidence that was discovered. Some of the victims would include organizations in the U.S., Taiwan, India, Vietnam, South Korea, the International Olympic Committee, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the World Doping Organization, and a list of defense contractors and tech companies.

The project is called “Operation Shady RAT.” This discovery was made after searching through the logs of defense company intrusions.

“Companies and government agencies are getting raped and pillaged every day. They are losing economic advantage and national secrets to unscrupulous competitors …”This is the biggest transfer of wealth in terms of intellectual property in history,” stated McAfee VP of threat research Dmitri Alperovitch. “I divide the entire set of Fortune Global 2000 firms into two categories: those that know they’ve been compromised and those that don’t yet know.”
