Actor James Franco Turns To Crowdfunding For 3 New Films

Posted Jun 19, 2013

James Franco is known for being an actor, writer, director, professor, and Samsung spokesperson.  Now he is raising funding for his latest project called Palo Alto Stories through the power of crowd-funding on Indiegogo.  Franco wants to raise $500,000 in funding for his films.  The films are based on his high school experiences in Palo Alto, California.

The films will be adapted from his fiction writing stories.  Franco is going to donate all of the profits from the movies to Art of Elysium, which is a non-profit that helps actors and musicians volunteer their time in helping children that are dealing with major medical conditions.

Franco wrote short stories in the book Palo Alto.  Franco is not directing the films himself.  He is working with several directors at New York University.  The directors include Nina Ljeti, Vladimir Bourdeau, Bruce Thierry Cheung, and Gabriel Demeestere.  The directors are going to adapt and direct Memoria, Killing Animals, and Yosemite.

The funds are going to be equally distributed between three films and will cover the production costs.
