Aereo, the over-the-air cloud TV company, has announced that they are releasing their Android app on the Google Play Store on October 22nd. The app will be released in public beta and will support device that run on Android 4.2 or higher. Aereo users can also connect a Roku box to their Aereo account using their Android device.
“We know consumers have been waiting a long time for an Aereo Android app and today, we’re happy to announce its release later this month,” stated Aereo CEO and founder Chet Kanojia. “At Aereo, we believe consumers should have more choice and control over how they watch television and a big part of that is expanding the universe of devices that they can use to access Aereo’s technology. This year, our focus has been on growing our footprint across the country.”
Aereo said this year that they are expanding from New York to 22 cities. However, the company is embroiled in litigation against the large TV networks like NBC, ABC, Fox, and CBS.
Aereo offers a small antenna that lets customers access over-the-air programming. Their service is currently available in New York, Boston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Miami, Houston, Dallas. The Chicago launch has been delayed.
