Aereo is preparing to launch in Detroit, Michigan on October 28th. Aereo lets subscribers view live TV shows and time-shifted streams through an over-the-air TV connection using Internet-connected devices. Aereo offers access to 30 TV channels including NBC, Fox, CBS, and ABC. Aereo uses a tiny remote antenna that works just like rabbit ears on a TV. Users can rent the remote antennas from Aereo for free over-the-air signals to their devices. Aereo is going to launch an Android app on October 22nd.
The company already has an iOS app and supporting PC software. Aereo is already available in Boston, Atlanta, Salt Lake City, Miami, Houston, and Dallas. The 9 Michigan counties that are getting Aereo are Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, Saint Clair, Washtenaw and Wayne.
?We?re thrilled to be launching in the Detroit metro area, the birthplace of Motown and the Motor City. Across the country, the message from consumers is clear: they want more choice and flexibility when it comes to how they watch television and they don?t want to be fenced into outdated and cumbersome technology. Aereo?s cloud-based antenna/DVR technology brings the old-fashioned antenna into the 21st Century, making television watching simple again,? stated Aereo CEO and founder Chet Kanojia.
