Aereo is a cloud-based television service that lets you stream content from Bloomberg and the four largest broadcasting companies in the U.S.: FOX, CBS, NBC, and ABC for a monthly fee in certain cities. Aereo will be launching support for the Google Chromecast platform at the end of May.
Aereo subscribers will be able to download the update Aereo Android application from the Google Play store and stream content from their mobile device directly to the Google Chromecast. The cast icon will appear within the Aereo application if a Chromecast is detected on the home wireless network.
?The way people watch and experience television is changing and Google is a pioneer in providing consumers with more choice and flexibility in how they access and experience that media. We?re excited that Aereo will be Google Cast Ready this May. Consumers deserve more options and alternatives in how they watch television and our team is committed to providing consumers with the best experience possible using Aereo?s innovative cloud technology,? said Aereo CEO Chet Kanojia.
Aereo is being sued by the broadcast companies and the case is being looked at by the Supreme Court soon. Aereo argues that the company should not have to pay retransmission fees since the signals are being picked up using an antenna for free. The networks are taking the opposite position and may develop their own competing service if the Supreme Court rules in favor of Aereo.
Aereo is available in cities like: New York City, Atlanta, Detroit, Boston, Dallas, and Miami. The service costs $8 per month.
