Airfare Price Tracking Startup Yapta Raises $2.7 Million

Yatpa is a startup based in Seattle that helps people find airfare bargains.  Recently the company announced that they have raised $2.7 million in funding.  Tom Romary, CEO of Yapta has decided not to disclose the name of the investors or other details.  Yapta will be using the funding to develop additional features.

“We’ll continue to be pretty aggressive on innovating features that are relevant to people in the travel space,” stated Romary.  Romary is a former exec at Alaska Airlines and RealNetworks.  Yapta has about 500,000 registered users.  However the company recently laid off 4 workers according to TechFlash.

Yapta started in January 2006 and raised $2.3 million in funding from First Round Capital, Voyager Capital, Swiftsure Capital, and Bay Partners.  Yapta’s specialization is sending e-mails whenever airfare drops below certain target prices.

Earlier this year, Microsoft acquired Farecast for $115 million. Farecast is a Yapta competitor.
