Alcatel-Lucent and AT&T Software Defect Causes Slow Upload For Some Customers

AT&T has just sent out a memo about how they have detected a joint software defect with Alcatel-Lucent that is causing upload speeds to slow down. In some markets, iPhone 4 users have complained about slow upload speeds in HSPA-equipped AT&T markets. Speeds that have had over 1Mbps during the holiday weekend have noticed speeds dropping below 100kbps. However these conditions affected “less than two percent” of AT&T customers. Below is the full statement from AT&T:

“AT&T and Alcatel-Lucent jointly identified a software defect — triggered under certain conditions ? that impacted uplink performance for Laptop Connect and smartphone customers using 3G HSUPA-capable wireless devices in markets with Alcatel-Lucent equipment. This impacts less than two percent of our wireless customer base. While Alcatel-Lucent develops the appropriate software fix, we are providing normal 3G uplink speeds and consistent performance for affected customers with HSUPA-capable devices.”
