Alibaba is the top e-commerce company in China and now they are gearing up to compete against Android. In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Alibaba Chief Strategy Officer Zeng Ming said that the company hopes to be “as strong as Android in China” when they launch their own mobile operating system.
However Zeng believes that they need help from vendors. Zeng said that the company has already added “quite a few [new handset partners].” But he did not say which companies have signed up deals to use Aliyun, their mobile operating system.
Alibaba launched Aliyun last summer. Aliyun was created over a period of three years by Alibaba’s AliCloud division. The operating system utilizes cloud-based solutions and it comes with web-based e-mail support. The OS syncs call data, text messages, and photos in the cloud.
