Alloy Digital has acquired the video game lifestyle company Escapist from Themis Media. The financial terms of the acquisition are unknown. Alloy will continue operating Escapist along with the Smosh Games venture. Smosh is the 3rd most popular YouTube channel (comScore) and they have over 740,000 subscribers with over 40 million views in 7 weeks since their debut.
The Escapist receives around 3.3 million monthly unique visitors (comSCore) and their YouTube channel has generated over 30 million views in its lifetime. Escapist’s audience spends an average of 6.3 minutes on the website per visit.
“Joining forces with Alloy Digital allows the Escapist tremendous opportunities to bring our premium content to an even wider audience and offers significant promotional synergies that will further build upon a brand that has uniquely captured a passionate and dedicated community,” stated Tom Kurz, the co-founder and chairman of Themis Media and the Escapist.
Other Alloy websites include ClevverTV and Shut Up! Cartoons. Alloy’s websites receive 90 million consumers per month with 53% of their audience being 12-34 year olds. Escapist also hosts an Expo that attracted 5,600 attendees in its first year. The Expo was held in Durham, North Carolina.
