At the end of March, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) filed a lawsuit against Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). Amazon.com’s mobile application is called Amazon.com Appstore and Apple’s mobile application store is called “App Store.” Apple filed the complaint against Amazon.com on March 18. Amazon said that the phrase “app store” is generic and nothing something that Apple should have for exclusive use.
This is a similar stance to what Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is making. Amazon.com also referred to an earnings call where Jobs had repeatedly used the term “app stores” in a generic way when criticizing the Android Market.
On the call, Jobs said:
?So there will be at least four app stores on Android, which customers must search among to find the app they want and developers will need to work with to distribute their apps and get paid. This is going to be a mess for both users and developers. Contrast this with Apple?s integrated App Store, which offers users the easiest-to-use largest app store in the world, preloaded on every iPhone.?
