The Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) app store now has 200,000 apps, said Jeff Bezos in a letter to investors. The Amazon app store nearly tripled in size over the last year. The service is now available in nearly 200 countries.
Amazon Appstore launched in March 2011 with 3,800 apps. Amazon hit around 100,000 apps in August, which means that it doubled in under a year. As a comparison, Apple and Google each have around 1 million apps. Amazon said in the past that it focuses on quality over quantity.
Amazon has a separate digital currency that can be for purchasing apps in bulk for a discount. Amazon announced that it would give consumers 1,000 free Amazon Coins with the purchase of the Amazon Fire TV video game controller device.
