Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) has named global customer service chief Tom Weiland as the head of the Amazon Fresh grocery delivery business. Weiland oversaw Amazon’s global customer service operations and technology since 2009. He was recently named the VP and general manager of Amazon Fresh, according to his LinkedIn profile. He will be replacing Amazon Fresh VP Rick Batye, who has retired.
Amazon Fresh delivers fresh product, meats, and groceries to customers within 24 hours of ordering. Amazon spent over 5 years testing and refining the service in Seattle. It expanded to Los Angeles and San Francisco last year.
Amazon is expected to hit anywhere between 6 to 20 new markets over the next year, including the New York / New Jersey metro area. Weiland joined Amazon in 1997 and has worked in a variety of roles since then.
