Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) subsidiary Quidsi has launched a new service called Vinemarket.com. Vinemarket.com is an online grocery store that caters to people that suffers from food allergy. Quidsi is expanding beyond green products and healthy foods to become a top shopping destination for around 15 million Americans that suffer from food allergies or restricted diets, according to TechCrunch.
Vinemarket launched in 2012 and sold products like vitamins and household cleaners that did not include harsher chemicals that are found in traditional products. Vinemarket has been revamped to allow shoppers to find allergen-free products. It also sells peanut-free, dairy-free, tree nut-free, soy-free, and gluten-free options. There are sections that focus on people with special diets like kosher, vegan, or organic. VineMarket’s inventory will include specific Banned Ingredients, such as high fructose corn syrups, bleached flour, bromated flour, artificial fats, trans fats, artificial colors and flavors, artificial sweeteners, preservatives, along with more than 20 chemicals.
“The idea for VineMarket.com was inspired by two people on our team, Rachel and Melanie, who have food allergies and wanted an easier, less complicated way to shop for groceries that meet their requirements,” stated David Zhang, VP of Retail at Quidsi and head of VineMarket.com. “Rachel and Melanie are not alone. According to FARE, the organization for Food Allergy Research & Education, about 15 million Americans suffer from food allergies. We know how difficult and time consuming it can be to sort through grocery options and read long ingredient labels, and hope that our work on VineMarket.com will help make it easier to shop for natural and organic products while adhering to the dietary needs of everyone in the house.”
Quidsi owns other websites like Diapers.com, Soap.com, and Wag.com. VineMarket.com customers will get fast and free 1-2 day shipping on orders of $49 or more. The service also has 24/7 customer care.
