Amazon.com Launches A 3D Printer Section

Posted Jun 9, 2013

You know a product has gone mainstream when it gets a separate section on Amazon.com.  Amazon.com has launched a new 3D Printer page that has several options to buy your own 3D printer and filaments.

Some of the printers available for sale through the Amazon.com 3D Printer Page includes the MakerBot Replicator 2, the FlashForge, and the Afinia 3D H-Series.  It looks like Amazon.com will soon start to carry the Zen Toolworks CNC 3D F8 Printer Conversion Kit and the Cubify Cube as it is not currently available.  The 3D printer filament varies are available in both ABS and PLA.

The Amazon.com 3D Printers section also has tutorials, books, CAD software, and other related parts.

3D printing, also known as additive manufacturing, makes it possible to take a digital model of an object of any geometric shape and create a three-dimensional replica.  3D printers use rapid prototyping, which is a process that allows manufacturers to scale a model using CAD data.  Solid objects are created using layers of various materials including liquid, powder, or metal.
