Amazon Defies iPad App Rules with HTML 5 Kindle Cloud Reader App

Posted Aug 10, 2011

Amazon just launched a new web-based Kindle Cloud Reader app, which allows users to read Kindle e-books on multiple platforms, from Safari to Chrome to?yes, there it is?the iPad. After Apple’s new in-app subscription rules kicked the Kindle Store link off of Kindle apps for iPad, this new Kindle Cloud Reader app allows users to continue to once again buy e-books from the Kindle Store while surfing on their iPads. CNET notes that the app does require an internet connection to sync to a user’s e-book library, but that Amazon also has a caching feature to allow users to continue to read when offline.

The app currently works with Chrome and Safari and on the iPad, but Amazon plans to release the app to more platforms soon.
