Amazon launches a home barcode scanner called Dash

Posted Apr 5, 2014

Amazon is launching a new barcode scanner that is called Amazon Dash. The Amazon Dash device is a 6-inch stick that lets you scan item barcodes or speak an order. It connects directly through WiFi.

Part of the functionality of this device is available through Amazon’s smartphone apps. The Dash makes pricing items easier though. It was designed to be simple for kids to use, but you will need to confirm your purchase through the Internet or smartphone app.

As of right now, the Dash is being sent out to a limited number of users, but you can register for a waiting list on Amazon.

Over 5,000 items can be ordered through the Dash stick. As of right now, it is linked to the AmazonFresh same-day delivery service. AmazonFresh is live in California and Washington.
