, Inc (AMZN) has over 16.5 million Prime account users

Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) is reporting that, Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) has 16.7 million Prime subscribers. This is up from 9.7 million one year ago. Around 93% of Prime subscribers have plans to renew their account for at least another year too. This stat is based on a  survey that the CIRP received from 300 Prime users.

Amazon Prime costs $79 per year. Users get free two-day shipping and access to Amazon Instant Video.

On top of receiving the subscription fees, has another benefit to offering the service. Apparently Amazon prime members spend around $1,340 per year compared to $708 per year for non-Amazon Prime customers.

Video streaming website Netflix currently has 31 million U.S. streaming video subscribers. Amazon Instant Video and Netflix have been going head-to-head in terms of preparing original programming for their video streaming services. Netflix launched an original series called House of Cards and premiered two new shows called Alpha House and Betas.
