American Express Company (AXP) partners with Uber on in-app loyalty program

American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) credit card holders spend hundreds of millions of dollars on Uber per year so it makes sense that the two companies partner. Now people that use both services can earn American Express loyalty points by paying for Uber rides with their AMEX cards.

Now a $20 Uber ride will cost 2,000 AMEX points or a $20 Uber ride can earn 40 points. These are not Uber-specific points, but are connect to AMEX’s loyalty program. Existing eligible cardholders can sign up directly for the American Express and Uber program within the Uber app through a single tap.

This program is currently only available for Uber users in the U.S. on iPhones. After the accounts are hooked up, users can switch between using points or earning points on each ride.
