Ancestry.com has acquired iArchives.com for $27 million. This is Ancestry.com’s second major acquisition within the last 3 months. Earlier this year, Ancestry.com acquired Sweden-based genealogy website Genline.com for $6.7 million in cash.

Inflection, a startup that created Ancestry.com competitor Archives.com and raised $30 million in its first round of funding earlier this year. Another Ancestry.com competitor, called Geni.com, has about $16.5 million in venture capital backing.

Through the acquisition, Ancestry.com also gains ownership of Footnote.com, an American history subscription-based website service. iArchives digitizes photos of American history records of those who were a part of notable events as far back in the past as possible.
