BlackBerry Ltd (NASDAQ:BBRY) executive Andrew Bocking has stepped down. Bocking was an EVP at the company and is the head of the BBM messenger service.
This couldn’t come at a worse time for BlackBerry because BBM was recently ported over to iOS and Android and gained traction. BBM hit 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours. BBM was rolled into the enterprise division at BlackBerry as a result.
“I can confirm that Andrew Bocking, EVP, BBM has made the decision to leave BlackBerry,” stated a BlackBerry spokesperson. “We thank him for his years of leadership and contribution.”
Bocking was one of BBM’s biggest cheerleaders. He wrote several blog posts about BBM’s success. BlackBerry’s head of global enterprise solutions John Sim is going to oversee BBM going forward.
Bocking is not the only BlackBerry executive that recently stepped down. COO Kristian Tear, CMO Frank Boulben, and CFO Brian Bidulka left in November. BlackBerry recently reorganized into four business units: handsets, cross-platform messaging, EMM solutions, and embedded systems.
