Google is currently working on a new Android camera API. The new camera app has a burst-mode and can capture RAW file formats built into Android. Through an update to the camera API, the functions will be available to camera app developers. Code that was discovered indicates that the API would support face detection and “removable” cameras.
?Android?s latest camera HAL (hardware abstraction layer) and framework supports raw and burst-mode photography? We will expose a developer API [application programming interface] in a future release to expose more of the HAL functionality,? stated Google spokeswoman Gina Scigliano in an interview with CNET.
Some manufacturers have added burst-mode features to their cameras, but more carriers will be able to support the feature since it will be built into the software going forward.
Google did not specify when the new API will arrive, but we know that it will be available in a “future release.”
