Between December and March, Apple and Samsung met in South Korea to try and hash out their patent disputes, according to the Wall Street Journal. Last August, Samsung lost a $1 billion trial verdict in the patent war lawsuits.
A jury in California decided that Samsung had infringed six Apple patents. Three of them were regarding the shape of the iPhone and the icon design.
Samsung has been trying to work out a broad patent licensing deal between them since then. Samsung got as far as writing up a “memorandum of understanding” on February 7th, which is a major step towards making a settlement. However, Apple decided to bail out from the agreement.
Discussions between the two companies are still ongoing.
