Apple Announces 13-Inch MacBook Pro With Retina Display

Posted Oct 23, 2012

Today Apple has announced a new version of the MacBook Pro.  The 13-inch MacBook Pro has a Retina display and all flash storage.  The 13-inch MacBook pro is 0.75 inches thin and weighs 3.57 pounds.  The MacBook Pro is 20% thinner and a pound lighter than the current 13-inch MacBook Pro.

?The 13-inch MacBook Pro is our most popular Mac, and today it gets completely reinvented with a new thin and light design, fast flash storage and a gorgeous Retina display,? stated Apple SVP of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller. ?With vivid colors, razor sharp text and more pixels than anyone else?s 15 or 17-inch notebooks, the Retina display completely changes what you expect from a notebook.?

The MacBook Pro has more than 4 million pixels in its 13-inch Retina display, which is nearly twice the number of pixels in an HD television.  At 227 ppi, the Retina display’s pixel density makes it so that the human eye cannot detect individual pixels at a normal viewing distance.  The 13-inch MacBook Pro has four times the pixels of the current 13-inch MacBook Pro, which makes it so that you can view and edit video in pixel-accurate 1080p.  The 13-inch Retina display uses IPS technology for a 178-degree view viewing angle and has 75% less reflection and 28% higher contrast than the current generation of the MacBook Pro.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display features 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processors with the option to choose from a faster 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor.  It has Intel HD Graphics 4000, 8GB of 1600 MHz memory, up to 768GB of flash storage, two Thunderbolt ports, two USB 3.0 ports, new HDMI port, and quick connectivity to an HDTV.  The 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display has a FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones, improved speakers, three-stream 802.11n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, and a MagSafe 2 power port.

The 13-inch MacBook Pro delivers around 7 hours of wireless productivity and can remain in standby for up to 30 days.  The MacBook Pro has a Power Nap feature where Mountain Lion and the MacBook Pro stays up to date while it sleeps.  Power Nap can refresh Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, and Photo Stream when the notebook is plugged in.  The MacBook Pro can download software updates and back up the Mac using Time Machine.
