Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that the manufacturing plant that the company is building in Mesa, Arizona, is going to be used for preparing sapphire glass. Cook refused to answer whether the sapphire is going to be used in a future iPhone or a smart-watch product.
Before Apple announced the plant in Arizona, there was a rumor that Apple paid $578 million as part of a multi-year agreement with GT Advanced Technologies to providing sapphire materials for an Apple plant in Arizona.
“We also announced a huge investment in Arizona. We haven’t said what it’s for,” stated Apple CEO Tim Cook in an interview with ABC. However, ABC’s David Muir probed further into it.
“It’s the sapphire announcement and it’s sort of all I’ll say about it,” added Cook.
