Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has a deal in place with China Mobile, the largest wireless carrier. The deal is already showing signs of success. In an interview, China Mobile Chairman Xi Guohua said that “multi-millions” of iPhones have been ordered by customers ahead of the launch on Friday.
Guohua said that the cooperation between China Mobile and Apple may extend beyond handsets.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said that he was “incredibly optimistic” about the company’s deal with China Mobile. The iPhone will start selling at over 3,000 new retail locations throughout China this weekend. Over half a million people in China are already writing apps for iOS as well.
China Mobile will likely subsidize the cost of the iPhones, which should help drive sales. China Mobile will introduce new subsidies for devices in the future.
