This Thursday Apple Inc. is expected to make a huge technology education announcement. So far the announcement is believed to be related to digital textbooks, but sources say that Apple will be releasing tools for publishers to create interactive e-books (i.e. a “GarageBand for e-books”).
Apple’s new technology is expected to allow user interaction with the content and will have textbook optimization. Apple has been working closely with McGraw-Hill on the new software. Late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs was quoted as saying that he had “set his sights on textbooks” and he believed that it was an $8 billion a year business that was “ripe for destruction.”
