Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has filed a patent that revolves around the capabilities to share media such as music, videos, images, podcasts, voicemails, etc. with other friends. If Apple is awarded the patent, then we could possibly expect this type of feature to be added to future iPhone operating systems.
The title of the application is “Methods and systems for mixing media with communications.” This feature seems pretty surprising to me because Apple has a tendency to restrict the sharing of music. Notice how you have to reset your music library every time you connect it to a different computer. Sharing music with friends will probably annoy the RIAA even more.
Perhaps the music sharing option will only stream the music over the phone rather than allowing the other user to download it. The user that does not own the track would then be encouraged to buy it over iTunes.
