Apple’s iBookstore To Offer More Choices In Japan This Year

Posted Jan 3, 2013

Apple rolled out the iBookstore application in Japan in 2010, but they failed to negotiate contracts with the largest book publishers in the country.  The iBookstore in Japan ended up containing free public-domain e-books.  The only paid e-books offered was available from small publishers and self-published authors. According to sources with AllThingsD, books from major Japanese publishers will be available for sale on the iBookstore later this month.  Apple has been in discussions with publishers like Kodansha, Shogakukan, and Kadokawa. Deals are expected to take place very soon.  This past October, Apple updated the iBooks app to support Japanese-language e-books.
