Judge throws out IPCom’s patent case against Apple Inc. (AAPL)

IPCom is a company that is known for asserting intellectual property in patent infringement trials. IPCom attempted to generate $2.2 billion in damages from Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL). IPCom has been called a “patent troll” because it does not actually make any products, but generates revenues from their patent portfolio.

The Mannheim Regional Court found that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) did not infringe on IPCom’s two standard-essential patents. Another claim that IPCom brought against HTC was also thrown on.

IPCom acquired the patents a few years ago from Bosch. The patents are related to how emergency responders from mobile devices.

IPCom may potentially appeal the decision. The court decision was first discovered by Florian Mueller of Foss Patents.
