Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has acquired a social search engine startup Spotsetter, according to TechCrunch. Spotsetter helps users search for places and provides recommendations for places you may want to go.
Spotsetter combs through data from Facebook, Instagram, Foursquare, and Twitter. It adds venue review data to maps to recommend the places. Perhaps Apple will integrate Spotsetter’s technology into Apple Maps.
Apple rarely discloses company acquisitions. However, Spotsetter wrote a blog post last week stating that the app would be shutting down. Spotsetter founders Stephen Tse and Johnny Lee also updated their LinkedIn profiles to show that they are now Apple employees.
