Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has seen their market share increase, according to comScore. The Google Android operating system is still leading with a 51.6% platform market share. Apple is now at 40.7%. These are based on numbers before the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c was released.
Android and BlackBerry’s market share both dropped 0.8%. BlackBerry now has 4% of the smartphone market and Microsoft now has a 3.2% marketshare after a 0.2% gain. In terms of overall smartphone brands, Apple has the top marketshare at 40.7% for the U.S. OEM market and Samsung has 24.3%.
The number of smartphone owners in the U.S. is now at 145 million, which means that the total smartphone market penetration is now 60.8% as of August. This is up 3% since this past May.
Facebook is the most used Internet-based app followed by Google Search, Google Play, YouTube, Google Maps, and Gmail.
