Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) may be updating its iMac line next week with faster processors and lower prices, according to MacGeneration. MacGeneration correctly predicted the MacBook Air refresh this past April so the rumor sounds likely based on the track record.
MacGeneration points out that the new iMacs may also have Thunderbolt 2 ports and will launch within the week instead of the Tuesday release day. Apple may also increase the processor speed of at least some of the configurations by 100MHz, including the 3.3 GHZ i5-4690, the 3.5 GHz i5-4690, and 3.6 GHz i7-4790 for the 27-inch model and the 3.0 GHz i5-4590S and 3.2 GHz i5-4790S for the 21.5-inch model. Apple may cut the price of the standard iMac configurations as well.
Apple may also prepare to launch Retina Display equipped iMacs in the near future. Apple may split the iMac lineup also — Retina models with higher prices and cheaper non-Retina models. The non-Retina models may help with growth in emerging markets.
