According to code spotted by developers that spoke with 9to5Mac, there is likely going to be a built-in barometer in the new and upcoming Apple iPhone:
The integrated barometer would be able to track altitude and air pressure. It may also forecast short term changes in the weather. There are apps that perform many of these tasks, but they use the iPhone GPS and motion chips.
However, dedicated measurement hardware is likely to provide better performance. Between’s Apple’s HealthKit tracking software and the barometer, new sensors could be used for tracking outdoor activities like hiking and skiing.
The iPhone 6 may launch in September based on the release date of previous products.
