Apple Inc. (AAPL): RED charity contributions hit $70M

The (Product) RED contributions by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) have reached $70 million. (Product) RED is a charity that focuses on the fight against AIDS.

This news is based on a tweet sent out by (Product) RED:

Great news to end the week! Apple's total for @RED reaches $70 MILLION. 100% goes to fight #AIDS. Thank you all for buying (APPLE)RED.

This is up $5 million from $65 million in July 2013. All of the proceeds will go towards HIV/AIDS programs in Africa. Apple started to collaborate with (RED) in 2006 with a special edition (RED) iPod nano.

Apple released several (RED) devices since then, including iPod Nanos, iPod shuffles, iPad Smart Covers, iPhone bumpers, and iPhone 5s cases.

Apple donates a portion of the purchase price to the charity for each (RED) product bought. (Product) RED is connected to several other companies including Nike, American Express, and Nike. (Product) RED has raised over $200 million thus far.
