Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is reportedly talking to Comcast in early stages to get special treatment on Comcast cables in order to bypass congestion on the web, according to The Wall Street Journal.
“Apple’s intention is to allow users to stream live and on-demand TV programming and digital-video recordings stored in the ‘cloud’, effectively taking the place of a traditional cable set-top box,” says the WSJ report.
Comcast would have to make significant investments in network equipment and back-office technology, according to the report. Netflix and Comcast made an agreement last month to ensure Netflix’s video streams would be smooth. Netflix users on Comcast complained recently that there was too much buffering.
