Apple has made a major change in iOS 7 beta 3 due to response from pressure driven by bloggers and designers – the font. Apple was using a light version of Helvetica Neue. The switch to regular Helvetica Neue was made last night.
Marco Arment of Instapaper even called the light version of the font “one of Apple’s biggest recurring flaws: letting cool come before functional.” Although the change might be perceived as subtle, it makes a huge difference. Notice the difference? Clearly this will be better for Apple users because they won’t have to squint as much to read the content.
The 5th generation iPod and iPod nano use a bitmap font called Podium Sans and the more recent iPhones and iPods uses Helvetica as the UI font. The iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPhone 5 uses Helvetica Neue.
