Apple Is Building A 20-Megawatt Solar Farm At Their Nevada Data Center

Posted Jul 2, 2013

Apple is going to build a 137 acre solar farm next to their data center in Reno, Nevada, according to GigaOM.  The complex is expected to generate between 18 and 20 megawatts of power, which is similar to Apple’s two arrays in North Carolina.

The new solar farm will include mirrors intend of solar panels.  The mirrors will concentrate the sun’s rays on each one up to seven times.

Apple said that the facility will provide electricity for the data center and will supply energy to the local grid.  Apple will be working with the solar company SunPower to build the solar farm’s engineering and construction.  Apple will be depending on geothermal energy generated by local plants.
