Apple is ceasing the development of its Aperture and iPhoto apps. Both apps will be replaced with the Photos for OS X app when it ships next year.
?With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture. When Photos for OS X ships next year, users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X,? said a statement Apple sent to Macworld.
Even though Aperture development will cease, Apple does not plan to abandon creative professionals. The development of Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro will continue.
The new Photos app was previewed at the 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple launched Aperture in 2005 and it competes with Adobe Lightroom.
