Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has hired Marcelo Lamego to join their fitness tech team. For eight years, Lamego was CTO of Cercacor, a medical device company that specializes in noninvasive medial monitoring technology. This is another major hire to Apple’s health and fitness team.
Marcelo started working at Apple in January, but his position went undetected until Network World noticed an update on his LinkedIn profile. His position at Apple is labeled as “research.” This does not confirm that he is working on health and fitness projects, but his work experience speaks for itself. Marcelo handled research and development at Cercacor and oversaw the design of the Pronto-7 noninvasive oxygen and hemoglobin monitor.
Other medical and fitness professionals that have been hired by Apple include Ravi Narasimhan, Nancy Dougherty, Jay Blahnik, Ben Schaffer, Ueyn Block, Roy Raymann, Todd Whitehurst, and Dr. Michael O’Reilly.
Apple CEO Tim Cook is interested in the wearables market and the company is rumored to be working on a fitness band product code-named the iWatch.
