Apple No Longer Allows Password Change Via Phone After Hack

Apple has told support staff to no longer process password change requests that come in through the phone after Mat Honan’s iCloud account was hacked.  Honan is a journalist that works for Wired.

The password freeze will last at least 24 hours while Apple performs system-wide “maintenance updates.”  The hackers called Apple and gave his name, address, and last 4 digits of his credit card (which they got from Amazon).

Apple’s technical support reset his iCloud account and issued a temporary password.  Amazon has made some security changes since this hack as well.  Previously customers have been able to access an account with just a name, e-mail address, and mailing address.
