The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published a patent that revealed Apple is improving the camera system that will allow users to reconfigure and replace the lens on the iPhone. The patent application is called ?Back Panel for a Portable Electronic Device with Different Camera Lens Options.?
The patent application shows that as the quality of digital images taken with compact devices increase, users will want even more sophisticated features that are found in the top digital cameras. The patent filing shows that the iPhone could use a structure that would allow the end user to reconfigure the optical arrangement of the camera.
Apple’s patent shows that the solution would include a portable device that has a digital imaging subsystem and lens that will have an optical axis. The removable back panel will expose the digital imaging subsystem once removed.
