Today Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released Mac OS X Lion on the Mac App Store. The new operating system can be purchased for $29.99. Some of the new features include Multi-Touch gestures, full screen app support, Mission Control, LaunchPad, and a redesigned version of the Mail application.

?Lion is the best version of OS X yet, and we?re thrilled that users around the world can download it starting today,? stated Apple SVP of Worldwide Product Marketing Philip Schiller in a press release. ?Lion makes upgrading a Mac easier than ever before; just launch the Mac App Store, buy Lion with your iTunes account, and the download and install process will begin automatically.?

Some additional features integrated into Lion include:

Resume – Apps that are closed are exactly where they left off when opened again.
Auto Save – Documents are constantly saved as you work.
Versions – Each document has the history saved as people create them so previous versions can be restored if necessary.
AirDrop – P2P wireless connections can be set-up with Macs that are nearby.

Lion OS X requires an Intel-based Mac with at least a Core 2 Duo processor and 2GB of RAM.
