Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has agreed to pay Samsung almost $240 million as part of a deal.  Samsung will become the second major supplier of 9.7″ display screens for current and future versions of the Apple iPad according to AppleInsider.

Samsung will supply Apple about 3 million display screens.  “The most expensive component in the iPad is the display and touch-screen interface that costs $80 for all models,” stated a person close to the situation. “The 9.7-inch display is more than twice the size of the iPhone 3GS screen and costs five times as much.”

About a year ago, Apple signed a $500 million 5-year deal with LG Display.  The agreement is rumored to be extended to $800 million to cover the supply of 10 million iPad displays. [AppleInsider]
